Dear Parents of Patrollers,
As this is my first year doing patrols, I am learning what the process is and what the expectations are with the AMA school patrol program. We want all students interested to have the opportunity to be patrollers and all grade 6 students that were interested in being lieutenant to write a letter explaining why they want to have that role. We had a visit from the AMA patrol coordinator that informed us our teams were far too large and needed to be a maximum of 4 students per team. Also patrollers were required to write the patrol test. This was my fault in not knowing this was a requirement. We then had a meeting with all the patrollers to let them know that we needed to change up the teams, making three teams A,B,C that would each have a 2 1/2 months rotation. Also, patrollers needed to complete the patrol test with a 90% on it (18/20) to pass, so again my mistake that I didn't realize this. The patrollers that passed were put into the first team and others would have the ability to rewrite at any time and be on team B and C. The questions on the test were all about things covered in the patrol training with the police officer we had, patrol handbook and patrol video we watched. I hope this provides some clarity in regards to patrols. If you have any other questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you Natasha McKay Learning Leader, Grade 5/6 Teacher Prince of Wales School What we did today:
- we continued discussing the Home paragraph exemplars and where they lie on the narrative writing rubric. We were able to defend where a piece of writing should lie on the rubric based on its merits. This is preparing us for writing our own Home paragraphs. - in PE today, we started throwing activities to prepare us for playing "Kanga Cricket" later this month. Which throwing does the body do more naturally? - we had our first class meeting this afternoon. In our meeting we discussed listening to music from home while working, Pokemon's in the class and moving to eat at lunch time. Here is what we decided:
