What we did today:
- we organized lists of numbers from least to greatest using a place value chart to double check our thinking - we watched a video called "We're the Superhumans" then made a text to text connection with the book "Wonder" - we took our Character Strengths as a class and made predictions about what our class strengths tended towards or not. Then we collected all of the strengths from everyone in our class to later plot and analyze. What strategy did you use to collect your data? What we did today:
- Math: we worked with place value charts today to organize numbers from greatest to least. We started practicing our multiplication facts to 5x5 today. Please complete any questions not done and make all corrections for tomorrow. - Literacy: Today we read "Ferdinand" to see how our homes differ. Today we brainstormed what our "home" looks like. - Wonder: Today in our book, August visited the school. Explain to your parents how that visit went. - Social Studies: We brainstormed what Canada is and how it is unique in the world. Today we were given a blank map with provinces/territories/capital cities to connect. Ask your parents to see if they could draw and label a map of Canada from memory. Notices Start of School Package: please complete and return by Friday, September 16. Patrollers - availability form due tomorrow so we can make a schedule and have students lead crossings at crosswalks. Room Co-ordinator Forms: If you are interested in becoming our "room Mom", please complete the form and return with your child. What were we up to today?
Math - we quickly reviewed place value and number sense today. The concepts we discussed were stating a number in standard form (956), written form (nine hundred fifty-six) and expanded form (900+50+6) as well as identifying the place value of a number (one, tens, hundreds, etc) PE - we are starting to prepare for the Terry Fox Run at the end of this month. What did we do for a warm up? Social Studies - we drew a map from recall today trying to identify the provinces, territories, capital cities and major bodies of water. Home - we brainstormed what Home means to us (that safe place you look forward to going to). We thought about that space through our 5 senses. Today we documented what our space sounded like. Notices Start of School Package: please complete and return by Friday, September 16. Patrollers - availability form due tomorrow so we can make a schedule and have students lead crossings at crosswalks. First week completed and it was AWESOME!
So great to meet all of the wonderful students in our amazing class. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone better and better throughout the school year. I feel this year is going to be fantastic with many adventures and great learning! What happened today: - Bioglyphs: we reflected on the success and challenges we encountered in this task. - Character Strengths: Many students have completed writing down their Character strengths and when they exhibited these traits. We are also identifying some Character traits that we would like to grow on. - We discussed how different people need different things to learn best, such as talk before starting to write or a quiet space without distractions while working. Where in the class is a quiet work zone and where in the class are you able to discuss with others and brainstorm before and during work time.
